To clear up confusion, all original posts will be made at Wordpress. Because we like it's features better- like all comments on one web page so you don't get 50 emails in your inbox, IP information, tags for each post, rss feed info correctly displayed etc.

BUT because they have shown that they fold under some free speech issues I have this blogspot and a program that transfers all info from one blog service to another. Just in case. Bwah ha ha, we are unstoppable.

Major copyright violation “illustrator” on the FP right now. I guess illustrator now means “I know how to use filters on photshop.”

http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=28440024 -LOVE that they have the image listed under their copyright. Funny, I believe the photo of Mr. Dylan that you stole had it’s own copyright. I can’t stand these sellers!

A very amusing email I received from the crazy funkyshique bunch…

I just finished reading your blog entry on Funkyshique. It was incredibly shocking to me as an Etsy seller myself to see how other sellers would treat Funkyshique.
Etsy is a plethora of mixed items, including items to be altered, things that appeal to the artistic mind. You would have to report over half of Etsy and could spend 24 hours a day pointing out non-vintage and non-handmade items.
Funkyshique has a nice subtle style and doesn’t exploit any type of manufactured item, unlike many of the made in China supplies found on Etsy. She is a hard working Mother, American Citizen and Hobbyist with her own unique style and has respect enough for our planet to recycle.

Does every knitter weave their own yarn or every artist mesh there own canvas fibers? I hope she paints the figurine purple and sprinkles it with glitter and calls it Altered Art.
What a shame that your blog exists simply to insult others. I see nothing but jealousy and envy and negativity.

Yep, the new Etsy rules say it must be handmade by YOU or 20 years old UNLESS you are a mother, a US citizen, a hobbyist with style and hell, even recycle. Nice to know. Mothers, hobbyists and earth lovers from other countries be damned!

Reader Email- Wonderbar

8:37 PM Thursday, September 24, 2009

"I was farting around on etsy looking for some "homegrown" honey and I came across the Wonderbar.  Upon seeing the all too apparent mass-produced packaging http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=30339854. I wondered about
Wonderbar.etsy.com.
Here's what they have to say in an excerpt from their profile:
"Business has grown over the past two-and-a-half years. Due to encouragement from the public and success in sales, our bars are now sold in health food stores all over the United States. Wonderbars are now made in a small facility in Dallas, Texas rather than in the home kitchen in which we began; most of the production process is still done by hand and Wonderbars are still made in small batches on a weekly basis. Each member of Desire Tree International’s management and staff is dedicated to providing healthy, simple, and truly all-natural snacks."

Wonderbars sound wonderful for something one can get from a grocery store not etsy, I wonder if Cliffbars will start selling on etsy because they are "done by hand" in a factory, I mean "facility" too."

Unfortunately, the toys are actually produced by Playsam (a Swedish company,) a fact that Fantask points out themselves in their listing descriptions.  Here is the link to Playsam's product page:

funkyshique is selling the hugely popular figurines by Demdaco. The figures have stickers on the bottom that say "Made in China". (I know because I own some)

They are sold in every gift shop in the world it seems, did she think no one would notice?

This girl goodluckelle decides to respond to the comment "You have a wide variety of things! Is this all handmade by you goodluckelle? If so, that's impressive!" with

"Oh they are not handmade by me but my supplier workshop! Thank you :-)"

in her own thread that she started. Wow. Gobsmacked.

If you want yet another laugh take a look at her shop and read her shop announcement.

Speaking of a lengthy re-opening, unfortunately regs123 is back open again. Boo.

To clear up some things- our Wordpress blog will carry duplicate posts as here. Some people have problems seeing links here and cannot find the RSS feed (which I didn't touch). If you are having the same problems you can check in over there. This blog does not show links unless you put your mouse right over where the link is. Sorry for the confusion. Head to Wordpress if it's buggy.
And to the people that keep emailing me because they see links in their google analytics it DOES NOT mean that you have been linked here. Do a search for yourself. If you don't find anything then you are not here. GA are very inaccurate. Please stop the freak out's. Thank you.

Safety Third??

1:43 PM Friday, September 18, 2009

We received an email about "bling" pacifiers.

"I am grossed out by all the baby items containing Swarovski crystals, especially the pacifiers. Anyone who has ever been around a baby knows they put EVERYTHING in their mouth, and you are going to give them a Swarovski pacifier? the shops do not have anything in their policies regarding lead in crystals..."

When we looked around we were shocked with what we found...

Azalea- http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=30471305 "If your baby is going to use a pacifier, it might as well look good!" No safety info.

Imajewski- http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=30340808 "Fun". No safety info.

minidiva- http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=28925320 No safety info.

Badabling- http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=27552543 states that rhinestones can detach and is for novelty and not real use but wonders why suitable age and quality are factors then.

SophiaBellaDesigns- http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25093927 doesn't want you sending baby to bed with it.

LittleLyddies- http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=30246634 states her crystals will NOT come off. Hmmm...

BlingItOnByNancy- http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=29459355 "Please note that the crystals can detach from the product." For display only. Then why does she give details to sterilize the teat?

It all seems very wishy washy. Boooo- safety third.

I have all the sympathy in the world for people who have hardships. Lord knows I have had enough of my own. But the one thing I would never do is screw over my customers and then whine about how it's all about me and I'm a good person. If I had any outstanding business issues when tragedy struck, I would be hightailing it down to the nearest Kinko's to use a computer within a couple of hours. This is without a doubt one of the most bass-ackwards threads I have ever read:

http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=6283271

There was a huge thread about about everyone was concerned about her, and she said she couldn't be bothered to read the whole other thread. Sorry, but this is crappy. You DON'T TREAT YOUR CUSTOMERS THIS WAY.

Wordpress Saga Continued...

6:54 PM Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Here is the latest word I have from them:

The person who made the comments is legally responsible for them.
As they have been brought to your attention and you have the power to
remove them you also share that responsibility.

If someone on another blog was saying this about you then you would
expect us to do something about it.

Freedom of speech does not come into this. The law does. We have to
obey the law and so does everyone else. The person being attacked has
every right to engage a solicitor and start proceedings.

If this is a random reader and they are making serious allegations
then why not delete them?

The comments must be deleted or edited as I said. They have to be removed.

I was floored by signing into Etsy Call Out and getting a

"Warning: We have a concern about some of the content on your blog. Please click here to contact us as soon as possible to resolve the issue and re-enable posting."

This is the email I received from Wordpress:

http://etsycallout.wordpress.com/2009/09/09/brand-name-backgrounds-arent-enough-proof-i-guess/

There are statements in the comments that allege someone
'stole' and ripped off' designs.
If the commenters provide full legal proof of that and post
that information to that post then the comments can stay.
If they cannot then those comments need removing or those
words editing out. The person who wrote the comments may
see what they say as opinionbut those are legal terms and
proof has to be provided.
Thanks.

Hi! i've been flagging this shop for 3 weeks straight and have even emailed them about it. All I get is a generic hi there! This shop is selling puppets from the company Folkmanis. they have even taken the pictures right out of the website. The finger puppets are Peruvian imports. The whole shop is a sham, including the story about the grandma making them for over 50 years.

Thats funny, Folkmanis has been in business for 30 years maybe they stole this lady's patterns! ;) Shame on you Folkmanis.

Just came across your blog, pointed out to me by another seller who thought I'd be interested, and I've got a reseller for you. This shop has been on Etsy since March 21, 2008.

<a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5726325">http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5726325</a>

They'll have 10-15 pages of the exact same item. They are selling these exact pieces on ebay as well, except there they don't bother lying saying they "handmake the chains."

Exhibit one:

<a href="http://www.ditassecretcloset.etsy.com">http://www.ditassecretcloset.etsy.com</a>
The fact that the seller says she ‘chooses unique items’ is rather a give away!

Most of the clothes are by this brand :
<a href="http://banana-house-past.blogspot.com/">http://banana-house-past.blogspot.com/</a>

Other clothes are a different brand. This is so blatant – the models are standing in front of boards that have the ‘DizzyDarling’ brand written all over them!
<a href="http://www.angiehearts.net/Dizzy_Darling_s/256.htm">http://www.angiehearts.net/Dizzy_Darling_s/256.htm</a>
<img alt="" src="http://ny-image1.etsy.com/il_430xN.89428685.jpg" class="alignnone" width="430" height="526" />
Oh, and her policies state she doesn’t do custom work. Funny that.

And an update on our favorite person William Dohman- He is back with a new birdhouse. Clearly he received the copyright papers for his old stolen birdhouses and had to change.

<img alt="" src="http://ny-image2.etsy.com/il_430xN.81242298.jpg" class="alignnone" width="430" height="285" />
Another ‘Etsy calls this vintage, even though it’s not’ Sunday on the FP and the Dorque.

<a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25220353">http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25220353</a>

I didn’t think you could grab something a few years old at a yard sale or thrift shop, sell it with something else unrelated that may or may not be 20+ years old (can’t tell from the photos), and list the marriage as ‘vintage’? There’s no assemby of the items, it’s just collected unrelated stuff.
<a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25220353">http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25220353</a>

But then the Etsy staff doesn’t know any better. The staff continues to ignore so many items that are handmade and look kinda cool, or are really vintage, to promote copyrighted items and yard sale castoff stuff.

Oh, and the few people I know who have been into the real equestrian thing would gag at Etsy’s idea of ‘equestrian style’. I think Etsy is confusing costumes for comedy rodeo acts, or what people who just collect items related to a specific animal (the horse, in this case) buy, with ‘equestrian’. Doesn’t matter so much now. Read an article on MSN about fall fashion trends last week, and it said the equestrian thing is ovah.

This guy is a repeat offender. He opened a shop last year where he sold graphics that he stole from a graphic artist. He sold one item, you can see it in his sold section. He was shut down. He has now reopened and is selling the modern version of a Chia pet – the “Little White Man’. Not his handmade, vintage, or supply….it’s resale. You can see it here: <a href="http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/216199005/Little_White_Man_Grass_Doll.html">http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/216199005/Little_White_Man_Grass_Doll.html</a>

He is a total reseller. None of the trunks and boxes he is selling are authentic vintage either, they’re 100% reproductions – I can go buy them right now at my local TJ Maxx or Marshalls. I’m sure with a little hunting any of us could find them online as well.

The Jewelry Downward Spiral

7:46 PM Wednesday, September 2, 2009

Fonth drives me crazy! Beautiful pictures and the jewelry even looks cute (cheap cute but still cute) but no way…no way is it not mass produced. It’s embarrassing that Etsy lets him stay there when the proof is as easy as this:
RedTeddy on Etsy sold this: <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=17292862">http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=17292862</a>

which looks a whole lot like this one from ThaiSterlingSilver:

ThaiSterlingSilver has this necklace: <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=sr_list_11&amp;listing_id=26548846&amp;ga_search_query=red+necklace&amp;ga_search_type=user_shop_ttt_id_7022981">http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=sr_list_11&amp;listing_id=26548846&amp;ga_search_query=red+necklace&amp;ga_search_type=user_shop_ttt_id_7022981</a> which looks an awful lot like the one that was sold on BenWorldHandmade: <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=16814194">http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=16814194</a>

InfinityJewelryClub also sells this necklace: <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=28818197">http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=28818197</a> which looks almost identical to this necklace by Fonth: <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=sr_list_9&amp;listing_id=29388489&amp;ga_search_query=green+necklace&amp;ga_search_type=user_shop_ttt_id_5953890">http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=sr_list_9&amp;listing_id=29388489&amp;ga_search_query=green+necklace&amp;ga_search_type=user_shop_ttt_id_5953890</a>

These suppliers have items that look really similar to what the Etsy shops listed above are selling:

When they were called out the first time, this blog was pretty new. I definitely think they could use a second call out. And speaking of “no way did you make that” turquoise rings, this shop has been bugging me for a long time: <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=29274168">http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=29274168</a>

Maybe I’m being a bit judgmental on someone new to Etsy. Admittedly, my panties get in a bunch when I see repeat-reqeusters in Alchemy, especially when it’s a shop requesting items very much in-lieu with their trade. So pardon my metaphorical wedgie…

<a href="http://ohmygoshemboss.etsy.com">ohmygoshemboss.etsy.com</a>

She’s a paper embosser. She should make cards, right? But I can’t help but wonder how much “handmade” work is really her own…

Card slips? (still not sure what the hell she’s looking for) <a href="http://www.etsy.com/alchemy/request.php?id=120769">http://www.etsy.com/alchemy/request.php?id=120769</a>
Packaging? <a href="http://www.etsy.com/alchemy/request.php?id=120614">http://www.etsy.com/alchemy/request.php?id=120614</a>
Something about using her business card [removed by admin]
Someone to do all her photos for her? (”photoshop wiz”) <a href="http://www.etsy.com/alchemy/request.php?id=121191">http://www.etsy.com/alchemy/request.php?id=121191</a>
Envelopes? Seriously? <a href="http://www.etsy.com/alchemy/request.php?id=121150">http://www.etsy.com/alchemy/request.php?id=121150</a>
Clear stickers <a href="http://www.etsy.com/alchemy/request.php?id=120995">http://www.etsy.com/alchemy/request.php?id=120995</a>
And long ago, something about requesting “something to put on my cards, to make them like a gift on their own!”

And added insult to injury,
Send heap stuff to her family (ideal price: $1) <a href="http://www.etsy.com/alchemy/request.php?id=120888">http://www.etsy.com/alchemy/request.php?id=120888</a>

Please understand: I know that Etsy shops aren’t required to stir, apply, and lick the glue of their hand-crafted manila envelopes. But the extent of these requests and lack of creativity by the shop owner has me scratching my head.

This shop has us scratching our heads.

<a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5631841">stylinbeadygirl</a>

Her announcement: This store is now in vacation mode. Someone has hacked into my store and taken down my items. Sorry for the disruption.
Her feedback: 88% 21 negatives almost all in a row.

So if there is obviously a problem with her not delivering goods AND the shop is in vacation mode, HOW is there an item available to buy?

WTFraud!

PIF FAIL

Pay It Forward's are supposed to be .20 with free shipping but let's take a looksie around the Etsy horn and 3 readers found these:

Vintage FAIL...

10:00 PM Monday, August 24, 2009

These boots were on the front page. They are "Vintage 80s Etienne AIGNER SIGNATURE " boots.
<a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=20184185">http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=20184185</a> in <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5244929">GoodEye</a>.

How can these be vintage when Etienne Aigner only made umbrella's, perfume and other small accessories until 2000 and didn't start making leather goods until 2001?

And these, from &lt;a href=&quot;in <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5244929">GoodEye</a>"&gt;GoodEye</a>, <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=vl_other_1&amp;listing_id=25667327">http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=vl_other_1&amp;listing_id=25667327</a> can't be vintage because Adrienne Vittadini didn't get into the glasses biz until 1996.
This shop has a few other things that are made by brands not even in existence 20 years ago.

And these DKNY boots in <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5189874">nstylevintage</a> are probably not vintage since DKNY wasn't formed until 1989 and the shoes and boots weren't introduced until a couple years later. The lace up boots weren't popular until the late 1990s so I doubt these meet the 20 year test.
<a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=28921972">http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=28921972</a>

<a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5066746">bsochic</a>'s description says "These sunglasses are from the early 80's", yet, DKNY wasn't founded until 1989. Say what??
<a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=24278080">http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=24278080</a> (Make sure to check out her feedback for a negative about misrepresentation.)

<a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=7008415">AntiNu</a> doesn't even know Etsy's TOS and writes in the description that the shoes are "about 16 years old."
<a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=29446569">http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=29446569</a>

It's fun to search for stuff made by designer's that haven't been around for 10 years, let alone 20, to see what you come up with. You'd be surprised!

<a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5865526">
http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5865526</a>

and don't know what to make of it. The supposed artwork looks copied from other artists. The books, well, I've seen that before and it sucks, but is a franchise.

What about all those "paintings" of other artists work?
And the personalized notes?
weird, just, weird.

Reader Email-

I sent two e-mails along with flags reporting two sellers who are selling mass produced jewelry from Korea/China. I provided links to their Etsy listings along with links to other big box foreign jewelry websites carrying the exact same merchandise, but the shops are still there and their items not removed. This is a genuine concern of mine, as I am a handmade jewelry seller and there is already enough competition amongst handmade sellers themselves. I feel that their presence on Etsy completely devalues
'handmade' and wondering why they are still selling despite the multiple flags sent along with proof that their items are not handmade. Thanks in advance for taking the time to address this.

Feminist Review Spam

9:22 PM Sunday, August 16, 2009

A blog called Feminist Review is spamming Etsy shops with a vengeance about getting freebies sent to them to review on their blog.

She didn't bother to remove the many, many other copyrighted listings in her shop.

Steampunk As Vintage

What are your thoughts on searching for vintage items and seeing steampunk??

I received an email from a reader that is so tired of seeing this seller when they are searching for vintage clocks..

Boutique Italiana may have their own website but google the brand name Lilia Vanini and see how many hundreds of online sellers of this brand there are.

These are mass produced and sell worldwide.

Anyone know the story behind this and goatmountainarts reply?

<em>"Maybe it's because everyone is tired of the passive aggressive blame another seller for your bad business which is exactly what you are doing. I know it, you know and she knows it but she's too nice to say anything.
If something is mistagged, hey FLAG it. What do you expect to achieve by this? It comes across as jealous and petty and small and manipulative, all of which it is.
It's obvious and it's spiteful and don't we really have enough jealousy fueled spiteful actions going around these days?
I don't get why it isn't digital college because whatever, but again, flag it if it's an issue instead of behaving like this. Couldn't get away with it inside a thread so you what, made up your own?
If you KNOW that someone is breaking the rules, don't break them yourself by calling out. Makes you look doubly foolish." </em>

Tourist Souvenirs

7:06 PM Monday, July 27, 2009

first, let me say that your blog is quite amusing and informative. thanks for keeping us all in the know!

secondly, i want to bring your attention to a few shops - of many - which are international sellers peddling tourist souvenirs as 'handmade'. as a seller in Asia with only (verifiable! :) vintage items they're not really my personal competition, but it does hurt my shop when people believe that everything sold from Asia is a fraud.

these two shops sell the EXACT same rubbish that i see in every tourist-trap bazaar, every day. sure, it's 'handmade' somewhere along the way - but in sweatshops by women and kids who then sell it to these people for mere pennies. i don't think that's the sort of image Etsy wants to portray.....

<a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=7038186">http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=7038186</a>

<a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=7637146">http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=7637146</a>

i can say for certain that both of these are frauds. in the first - i cannot believe that this ONE person knows how to make EVERY SINGLE STYLE of tourist handbag sold all over town here. on the second, the lady is selling silver, wood, fabric (SAME PURSES as the first one!) and many other mediums, professionally done, and also strangely enough identical to everything in the bazaars.

PLEASE help to rid etsy of sweatshop items!

thanks!

Sock Puppet Voting

10:00 PM Friday, July 24, 2009

I received this email today:

Hi!

Love your blog and wish to remain anynomous, if that's okay.

You'll love this one. This shop, PenelopeG2, is in the <a href="http://www.etsy.com/voter_list.php?ref=voter&amp;room_id=60">voter this week</a>. She's in second place, as of this writing, with 155 votes. Second place, mind you, but not one single item heart. Imagine that!!

Everytime flapperdoodle moves ahead by 10-plus votes, PenelopeG2 moves just to within a few votes of her... within a matter of minutes. This has been a consistent pattern all week, since this round of voting began. Probably so she can keep the pace and cross the finish line in the final minutes??

It gets better- Zero hearts on her popular item. Check out her feedback from buyers- minharda buys from PenelopeG2 on July 6, 2009 and leaves feedback July 7, 2009. Here's the feedback she left: "I gave this as a birthday gift to a girlfriend and she loved it....I think these pieces are unique and universal and very stylish."
Can you say express mail??!
The next day, July 8, minharda makes two more purchases and leaves feedback July 21, the same day the other buyer, Hgerryts, did. Neither buyers have bought from any other shop.

And it still gets better! In the etsy storque article about this voter, there is a comment that says "wow, love PenelopeG2's stuff - definitely on my wish list!" written by "dianadiva008" -- guess when she started her account? July 21st!! <a href="http://www.etsy.com/storque/etc/vote-who-has-the-freshest-shop-4406/">http://www.etsy.com/storque/etc/vote-who-has-the-freshest-shop-4406/</a> (scroll a way down to find the comment)
Dianadiva008n loves PenelopeG2 so much that she doesn't bother to heart her shop, or her items. In fact, she hardly has any item hearts on anything. Now, wouldn't you heart someone whose shop you love so much?
About 10 of us have been watching the voting pattern all week- it is amazing how, when flapperdoodle moves ahead by 10 or more votes, Penelope manages to close the gap.
While I think she makes her necklaces, some of her bracelets are mass produced.

Sock puppet's for sure... I hope you will look into this and post something before voting ends at 10 am Monday.

Please, please!!

A REAL fischverkäuferin :)

A reader pointed out a shop with a VERY interesting <a href="http://www.etsy.com/profile.php?user_id=5731432">German woman</a> who loves to talk trash about others to somehow make herself appear more high and mighty to herself I suppose, yet us readers just thinks she's an ass.

Check out some of the great comments left by other readers:

<a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5731432">decentartworks</a>

She manages to insult everyone on Etsy along with her customers.

http://www.etsy.com/profile.php?user_id=5731432

This profile was updated, it previously called all other photographers on Etsy “Ghetto walmart kids with crapy plastic cameras”

This is the “nice” version.
_______________________________________________________________

Here’s a quote from the end of the profile:
“I love to talk to people from other countries …(and I’m also travelling a lot around)
…just another hobby of mine ;-) ”

= LMAO

Her nicecraftworks profile isn’t much better…
______________________________________________________________
Wow, that is pretty rich. Being a photographer myself, I don’t see what is so spectacular about her photography. It looks kind of bland. *shrugs*

Can you report people for having offensive profiles?
_____________________________________________________________
Omg, this is from her other profile. How ignorant!

“‘GERMAN’ beads don’t exist. I’d like to stop that stupid nonsense that gets distributed by numerous jewelry and supply sellers from USA who are claiming that their beads are ‘made in Western Germany’.
The fact is that there are no beads factories in Germany. And for sure never have existed here in West Germany where I’m living for all my life (and that is almost a half century).

ALL beads and findings which are available here in German stores are imported from Asia or from somewhere else in the world. Also the jewelry material that gets sold by the German supply companies Guetermann, Rayher, Farbenspiel etc. is imported from Asia. (They just buy it from Asia and re-sell it in Germany for super expensive prices. Not only one single bead of them was ever manufactured here in Germany! And btw …Guetermann now even lets produce its world famous sewing thread in India.) So far about globalization…

Further on: the words ‘made in Germany’ are protected by German law for products which are actually made in Germany and may not abused for any other purposes.

Same for German ‘VINTAGE’ beads:
the word ‘vintage’ doesn’t exist in Germany as well. It’s totally unknown here and all this strange hype about ‘German vintage’ beads is USA-made only (as well as the beads themselves!!!). These sellers use to tag their beads ‘German vintage’ just for making ‘precious’ beads out of them (even out of worthless plastic beads!) and sell them for expensive prices.
Due to this ‘vintage fashion style’ hype in the USA many people are making lots of profit on that with such false products. There actually has arisen a real ‘German Vintage bead’ mass distribution in USA. (You can see that if you search for ‘German Vintage Beads’ on the internet. Just try out by yourself! You’ll find US-sellers only, no German at all… even no Asian sellers, who distribute such false ‘vintage beads’!)”
___________________________________________________________________
I don’t see the artistry in her pictures either, and the things she says in the profile prove that she wouldn’t recognise fine art if it bit her in the nose…

Just going to point out one more thing about decentartworks…

Previous to her updated profile she also called out all the photograhers who digitally altered their photos, saying she’s only providing actual prints.

Looks like she changed her mind about what’s crap and what’s art.

<em>“All my listed photos are also available as digitally altered photos (i.e. greyscale, aged, faded, blurry, watercolour, oilpainting, textured, digitally framed etc.) Just let me know what effect you want for which photograph of mine and I will make a customized picture especially for you … at no extra costs :-) ”</em>

Good lord… that woman is unbalanced. WTF is this about???? How he hell does she know the percentage of sellers in Germany who are actually “other nationalities” temporarily living there?!! whatanutcase.

“<em>To your information:
About 50% of all Etsy stores located in Germany are US Army ‘based’ military shops! Other 30% of Etsy stores here in Germany are maintained by sellers of other nationalities who just temporarely live in Germany.
Only 20% are actually German shops.

So you should keep this in mind if you want to buy ‘typical German’ products here on Etsy. But I hope very much that this strange situation will change soon and that many more German sellers will sign up on Etsy in the future
…for representing OUR countries’ artisan products :-)</em> ”

I think that remark is sort of racist, as well. It’s not like she’s making traditional German cuckoo clocks. She’s making beaded jewelry, anyone from anywhere can make what she’s making. You don’t have to be German to know that skill.
___________________________________________________________________
traveled and lived in germany for a short time here, and never met anyone like this fischverkäuferin. wjw….i do understand her wanting to let people know about traditional crafts in Germany Post WW2.

when i was there my arts and crafts appreciation was extended towards the fine pilsner brewers exclusively. quite enjoyable craftsmanship in that department.

it wasnt hard to find this link, decentcraftartphotographer lady:
http://www.wildthingsbeads.com/article-gcbi.html

not sure how accurate it is but apparently there may be some beadmaking going on there
___________________________________________________________________
I just like how she trashes other photographers as ghetto.. goes on and on about how fine art her work is..and then charges $6.00 for it. What a joke.

And what is this about??

<em>because when I joined Etsy one year ago I was totally shocked about all the many 'trash photographers' from USA who make (without exception) <strong>ugly junk photos of European countries (especially of Germany) and publish them here for sale</strong>. I still do not know the reasons for this very primitive behaviour that continues on and on, because we Europeans do not make such ugly photos of the USA and put them here for sale...
or should we do that also do in the future now? </em>

I came across this summary of some shops on the Chinese auction site taobao:
<a href="http://209.85.225.132/translate_c?hl=en&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;sl=zh-CN&amp;tl=en&amp;u=http://hi.baidu.com/xzdqarina/blog/item/726ab21b950d5b118618bfb9.html&amp;prev=_t&amp;rurl=translate.google.com&amp;usg=ALkJrhjIO-U-wnx8WcrtSzKVULm_apflEw">http://209.85.225.132/translate_c?hl=en&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;sl=zh-CN&amp;tl=en&amp;u=http://hi.baidu.com/xzdqarina/blog/item/726ab21b950d5b118618bfb9.html&amp;prev=_t&amp;rurl=translate.google.com&amp;usg=ALkJrhjIO-U-wnx8WcrtSzKVULm_apflEw</a>

since two of them are well-known resellers on Etsy (idea2lifestyle and yystyle) I thought I'd take a look at the style they are "copying" the aka style.

The taobao shop is artka aka

Artka label <a href="http://www17.tx8.cn/photo/woshiyiduohua/20096510211117.jpg">http://www17.tx8.cn/photo/woshiyiduohua/20096510211117.jpg</a>

when I went there, I immediately recognized some clothing from a shop lifeisonlyillusion that was recently brought to my attention.

This is just one of the blatant resellers from China on Etsy. They change their profiles continuously, changing what they say about their business. It almost appears that Etsy is feeding them the terminology and profile that would keep them in line with the TOU.

Please address these blatant cases. The sellers and buyers on ETsy all know about them, and are disgusted.

SIncerely, Astrid aka RunzwithScissors

I came across this seller <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6506718">http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6506718</a> and feel really hacked off that she is just copying classic work by EH Shepard for Winnie the Pooh,

for example, just one of many, hers – <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25739434">http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25739434</a>

and Helen Oxenbury for Alice

hers – <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=vl_other_1&amp;listing_id=23610441">http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=vl_other_1&amp;listing_id=23610441</a>

She says: “All of my artwork is Original and hand painted”, and never gives a name check to the real original artists or acknowledges they are copies. She might as well just use a light box.

I reported one of her items, but nothing happened.

I would love to see what Disney thought of her "originals".

Looking at her sold items I see she has copied Nightmare Before Christmas and Curious George as well..

Evidently Etsy closed their shop once, and somehow they were able to manipulate their language to get it reopened. Any time a shop has many different style items requiring differing expertise &amp; machines, and totally professional-shot photography in the asian style (<strong>YET BLURRY ADDS ETSY CALL OUT</strong>), one gets suspicious. I am not alone -- many sellers know this, and are very frustrated with Etsy in regard to these.

This shop wants to say that 4 members of their family make all the stuff the sell. Well, here they are on taobao:
<a href="http://translate.google.com/translate?js=n&amp;prev=_t&amp;hl=en&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;u=http%3A%2F%2Fitem.taobao.com%2Fauction%2Fitem_detail-db2-8cdc7109d9284bb03a4fec21c81a1983.htm&amp;sl=zh-CN&amp;tl=en&amp;history_state0=">http://translate.google.com/translate?js=n&amp;prev=_t&amp;hl=en&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;u=http%3A%2F%2Fitem.taobao.com%2Fauction%2Fitem_detail-db2-8cdc7109d9284bb03a4fec21c81a1983.htm&amp;sl=zh-CN&amp;tl=en&amp;history_state0=</a>
