Brand Name Backgrounds Aren't Enough Proof I Guess..

The fact that the seller says she ‘chooses unique items’ is rather a give away!
Most of the clothes are by this brand :
<a href="http://banana-house-past.blogspot.com/">http://banana-house-past.blogspot.com/</a>
Other clothes are a different brand. This is so blatant – the models are standing in front of boards that have the ‘DizzyDarling’ brand written all over them!
<a href="http://www.angiehearts.net/Dizzy_Darling_s/256.htm">http://www.angiehearts.net/Dizzy_Darling_s/256.htm</a>
<img alt="" src="http://ny-image1.etsy.com/il_430xN.89428685.jpg" class="alignnone" width="430" height="526" />
Oh, and her policies state she doesn’t do custom work. Funny that.

And an update on our favorite person William Dohman- He is back with a new birdhouse. Clearly he received the copyright papers for his old stolen birdhouses and had to change.
<a href="http://www.midwesthomemag.com/media/Blogs/Home-Dish/July-2009/Esty-Love-from-MN-William-Dohman-Birdhouses-and-Word-Signs/">http://www.midwesthomemag.com/media/Blogs/Home-Dish/July-2009/Esty-Love-from-MN-William-Dohman-Birdhouses-and-Word-Signs/</a>
It makes me sick to see someone like him constantly celebrated, while true artists that come up with their own designs are passed by.

About the birdhouse article: wtf is 'Esty'? I make typos, too, but I am not a journalist.
Banana House clearly states on their site they ship using SingPost, so no way is Ditassecret making her clothing in Chicago. If she gets enough flags, someone (cough cough) will suggest she remove the brand names from her listings (and someone will edit her sold items if necessary) and tell her to photochop out any logos in her pics. Then she'll be on her way to making over 1,000 sales in 2010.

He is supposedly an architect. I would not want an employee of mine going around saying they work for me with this kind of stuff floating around on the net. What kind of credibility is that?
As for the change in birdhouse. Lame, lame, lame. What a pathetic streak of pee he is.
He'll start another Etsy thread about it soon. Watch this space...

The model chick was in a bunch of the replica bag shops! LOL

Excellent comments on that DOHman article. Thank you, Princess and Mills.
I hope you don't object to me posting them here as I am sure they will be removed shortly.

Nice, however his robot designs were ripped off from another artist named Alexander Shen:
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=190064.0
The resemblance is uncanny.
And his birdhouse designs were ripped off from popdeluxe:
http://www.popdeluxe.net/wobi1.html
They used to be exact and he has just recently changed the birdie cutout a teensy bit.
Stealing art is lame.

The birdhouse design and idea was stolen from Damian O'Sullivan who designed the birdhouse sold at popdeluxe at the link above. William was forced to remove the birdhouses from his Etsy shop and I guess he thinks just changing them up a little makes it OK?
Here is what Dohman used to sell:

More of Damian's boxes sold on the net:

And while you're so busy featuring and supporting plagiarists you forgot to proof read your own heading."

@condom, thanks for posting the backstory. His shop looks super-legit without seeing the other designs...
To play devil's advocate, it's a simple design. I agree--it's tacky to copy a successful design without making it your own. But it's still handmade, eh? (And "reclaimed wood", no less.)
Seriously though, I'm going crazy with all the other images he could use in place of a bird cutout: a squirrel, a deer, a tree. Hungry jaws, perhaps. Come'on.

People aren't even trying to hide it anymore. That's how bad Etsy Admin's reputation for maintaining their mission is.

It's funny that the bags have someone elses label on them. Also, this is convenient:
"I love to sew but if I don't have access to my sewing machine, I do crochet and knitting. That is the reason I have different crafts in my store. " You don't have access to a sewing machine, yet you can do that kind of work? Interesting.
Also, like all of those who really make their items and are in no way trying to be deceptive and just go through the motions of what they think handmade artisans are supposed to do, she has a blog:
"Hello bloggers!
Welcome to my blogspot!
Read my blogs and
Your blogs will add life to my blogs and others' blogs.
Keep blogging! "
Oh...sure. You MUST be legitimate. I can tell because you also have this legitimate blog that has offered me this eye-opening glimpse into the person behind the shop.

I have been in constant contact with Damian O'Sullivan ever since I found the DOHman birdhouses. Damian had a hard time getting DOHman to remove the birdhouses but he finally gave in after being confronted with the copyright papers. DOHman is also claiming that he got permission from Damian to reproduce the new birdhouse which is a complete lie. This is the first Damian has seen or heard of it and understandably he is not happy about it.
For anyone in London, Damian will be exhibiting his amazing Solar Lampion at the V&A as part of a Design Week show.

DOHman is just a big turd, let's face it. He lied constantly about the birdhouse. There is no way in hell you can come up with the same proportions, colors and shape of bird for that birdhouse. As a designer I believe you can come up with the same idea, sure. But NOT the exact same implements. Sorry, it just does not happen. I know he will continue to whine and protest his innocence but the more he steals and copies, the bigger the shit he will get himself in to. And it will serve him right every time.

Today I have been notified by my employer that someone, I assume this person resides in this thread, has been spreading lies to my employer about my personal work. I request that if you have an issue with me or my work that you contact me directly.
While everyone is entitled to their opinion, I will not accept the lies that my current design is infringing on any copyright law. I have written confirmation from Damian O'Sullivan that the two designs are in fact different. Whether the people on this thread are happy with that does not concern me, but it does not give you the right to spread false accusations about my current work on other websites or to harass my employers.
If you do not like my work by all means write about it, but to say that my current design is infringing on copyright laws is an outright lie and will not be taken any further.
As for the robots, I find it laughable that someone thinks I copied my design from the link posted. While they are cute in their own right, I found my inspiration through the game Little Big Planet and their sackboys and girls. Also, to assume that the posted link was the first ever wooden robot with a slit for a mouth and two round eyes (gasp) is downright absurd.

Aww, D'oh!man -- you're so cute with your pretending to be above board! It's so precious to watch you try so damn hard.
EtsyCallOut September 15, 2009 at 1:59 PM
If you look at Dohman's body of work, there's absolutely no cohesive design thread. The only uniting factor in all of his designs seems to be the concept of "borrowing" from the work of other designers. He's a knock-off artist and it looks like karma is in full swing.
EtsyCallOut September 15, 2009 at 1:59 PM
You summed it up beautifully, Molls.

I find it fascinating DOHman spends so much time and energy protesting his innocence when all he had to do was get his own copyright papers when he supposedly created such an original design. I know I would for such a sterling piece of work. Oh, but he couldn't do that because a copyright on that design already existed, right? So he decides to make one just a little different and claims it's his own idea. Umm. Nobody has forgotten the original stolen piece. Do you think we're that dumb?
I wish I had a screen print of his Flickr account, but the original birdhouse by O'Sullivan used to be in this Flickr set: http://www.flickr.com/photos/williamdohman/sets/72157614122066150/
I wonder why he removed it, huh?
His bike love print is heavily influenced by Dora Drimalas. Not the same design, but it was certainly a case of college project "take an idea and give it your spin" lesson. His Yankees poster is a commonly seen bumper sticker. Too Legit to Quit is everywhere. God save the Queen...wow, why bother to even try and make it different, DOHman?
Cheats will always be found out. You can run, but you cant hide, boy.
