Reseller- nicenecklacepearl
8:03 PM Saturday, September 12, 2009At least this reseller gave me a laugh with the shop name and the names of each item being "charming" as if that is the key to English speakers to buy buy buy.

Here is a tip to Etsy- if the listings have a camera icon in the corner, it's probably not handmade.
I *love* how the first examples are both oh so "Beatutiful" LOL!

I find it pretty funny that the listings say :
"Condition: 100% Brand new"
Would have gone without saying for handmade items, I should think. Unless that seller thinks it's normal to "make" jewelry, wear it, then list for sale. heh

'Sharing' items from a collection or 'sharing my collection' are typical Ebay reseller phrases. They know enough to put the offer of custom work in their boilerplate -- maybe they read this blog? The very first time I visited Etsy -- like three years ago? -- there was a reseller pearl necklace on the front page. The seller was sharing her collection and was 'studying hard'. SS, DY.

What IS that little camera logo thing in the corner of the pics? What does it mean?
EtsyCallOut September 15, 2009 at 2:00 PM
The camera in the corner looks like an Ebay photo watermark to me.
The Etsy seller may be copying the photos and descriptions from an Ebay seller, and planning to purchase the items on Ebay if someone buys them on Etsy. There are sellers who do this, weird as it sounds. The seller only needs a computer and a PayPal account. They don't need inventory or a camera, and they just copy and paste the descriptions, making only minor changes if that applies. Their only investment is listing fees. A buyer pays them on one site before they purchase the item somewhere else. I don't know how a request for a custom piece of jewelry would be handled.
I don't know that the Etsy seller in the post is in fact doing this, to clarify. It is just a possibilty.

"Would have gone without saying for handmade items, I should think. Unless that seller thinks it’s normal to “make” jewelry, wear it, then list for sale. heh"
Maybe not normal, but I actually came across a jewelry seller on Etsy who explained that all of the jewelry she sold was made to fit small people because she liked to wear it until it sold. Hmmmmm. Wonder why she didn't have any sales?

"I believe in unique, special jewelry for every day".
All of the items looked pretty mundane to me.

Ghangzhou, huh? I get very nervous when that comes up on my GA. I mean, why does someone in China need to spend an hour in my shop? Which they have, more than once. Just waiting for bootlegs of my stuff to appear somewhere...

Um, for anyone who's interested, the Twilight copyright holders are finally laying down the pain...
