Reseller Callout: ikaaka
8:18 PM Wednesday, July 8, 2009UPDATE 7/9- SHOP NO LONGER ACTIVE!!!
This seller was on the front page chosen by Admin using the search term "raffia" on June 24, 2009. I can tell just by looking that the items are mass produced.
Here's the Etsy seller:

Here's the Sunset Trading site where you can purchase the same product:

Please note the place of origin (Etsy seller is operating out of Hawaii) as well as the supply ability.

I love how the bows are flattened and creased like they were just removed from the box of 240 (the minimum order). But it does actually appear that the Etsy seller is the company that has these bags made in China. Did you look at their Profile Page??? Check this out-
"We have create a Drop Ship Policy!!!
HOW IT WORKS:
1) You do not purchase any merchandise until you have sold the item and collected the money from your customer.
2) You then purchase the item from us and we ship it directly to your customer.
BENEFITS:
This allows you to sell a broad range of products with no investment.
There is no expensive inventory or warehouse to maintain.
You do not have to take the time to package and mail the merchandise.
You do not have packaging material expenses.
Ikaaka.etsy.com will ship your order anywhere you want it shipped. We will ship to your friends, family, and customers AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE! You pay for the merchandise and the actual shipping costs and that's all!
When we ship to someone other than the person placing the order we do all of the following:
1) We include YOUR return address and/or business name
2) We do NOT include our company name anywhere on or in the order.
3) We do NOT include the prices paid for the merchandise.
These 3 rules are implemented for a two reasons:
1) So your customers will stay YOUR customers and not know the mark-up prices.
2) Your friends and family will never know how much you paid for our quality merchandise.
You may use our pictures and descriptions anywhere to aid in your sales."
I've flagged. We'll see if it works.

When etsy features resellers on the front page, it seems obvious to me that they don't have a clue and just don't give a crap. Etsy is not a handmade site anymore and I don't think they care. I just hope that the people that buy from the resellers don't care, either, or they're going to feel a little ripped off when they see their 'one of a kind' handbag or necklace or whatever being carried or worn by someone else.

Disgusting. And their shop policies are just the pile of crap on top of the whole nasty mess! I sent an email to flagged@etsy.com with plenty of links and thoughts on how letting this continue erodes buyer and seller confidence. With any luck, they'll be able to hear the sound of their own conscience over the jingle of those twenty-cent listing fees.

They're on the front page right now, in a member made treasury. It's a crappy picture too. In the description it says "limited edition of 3" yet it also gives wholesale information. WTF?
