Reseller Callout: idea2lifestyle
9:58 PM Tuesday, July 7, 2009I've got an amazing contact that does her homework! This is an email that she sent to Etsy but went ignored:
OK -- this should be definitive info on this reseller. Here's the site, called RIP (Swan China) RIPDress.
1) Notice the 2 ideographs in their banner that make up their name (with the RIP under the 2nd one):
Under "brand" on the listing, you see the same RIP 2 ideographs.
Brand:裂帛
<a href="http://74.125.95.132/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http://item.taobao.com/auction/item_detail-0db2-20fb3fe88cfac53a8f2a599c003544f9.htm&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&usg=ALkJrhiTGa8Qxu2_12_GxCysChKT-ituQA">http://74.125.95.132/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http://item.taobao.com/auction/item_detail-0db2-20fb3fe88cfac53a8f2a599c003544f9.htm&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&usg=ALkJrhiTGa8Qxu2_12_GxCysChKT-ituQA </a>
if you scroll down, you can see how many of this identical dress they sold in China, and the feedback for each. 58 this month alone. and that's just this one dress.
Here's the dress on Etsy - just recently added: <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25639528">http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25639528</a>
looks like what they charge yuan/USD is about 5.5.
2) On this page, there are 3 more dresses idea2lifestyle sells on Etsy:
<a href="http://74.125.95.132/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http://shop33483998.taobao.com/%3Fsearch%3Dy%26price1%3Dnull%26price2%3Dnull%26pageNum%3D5%26scid%3D72863166%26keyword%3Dnull%26orderType%3D_time%26viewType%3Dnull%26isNew%3Dnull%26ends%3D&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&usg=ALkJrhijnVnKki-8ooB816Yd0eKX7ELytw">http://74.125.95.132/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http://shop33483998.taobao.com/%3Fsearch%3Dy%26price1%3Dnull%26price2%3Dnull%26pageNum%3D5%26scid%3D72863166%26keyword%3Dnull%26orderType%3D_time%26viewType%3Dnull%26isNew%3Dnull%26ends%3D&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&usg=ALkJrhijnVnKki-8ooB816Yd0eKX7ELytw</a>
the page might change as they add more, so look through the neighboring pages, too.
3) This is one page from the skirts: <a href="http://74.125.95.132/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http://shop33483998.taobao.com/%3Fsearch%3Dy%26price1%3Dnull%26price2%3Dnull%26pageNum%3D3%26scid%3D103915250%26keyword%3Dnull%26orderType%3D_time%26viewType%3Dnull%26isNew%3Dnull%26ends%3D&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&usg=ALkJrhhLvVKNF5oRx6Y_GHUEKJHHfWSxhQ">http://74.125.95.132/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http://shop33483998.taobao.com/%3Fsearch%3Dy%26price1%3Dnull%26price2%3Dnull%26pageNum%3D3%26scid%3D103915250%26keyword%3Dnull%26orderType%3D_time%26viewType%3Dnull%26isNew%3Dnull%26ends%3D&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&usg=ALkJrhhLvVKNF5oRx6Y_GHUEKJHHfWSxhQ</a>
here is the same skirt on Etsy, sold in July a year ago: <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=9587424">http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=9587424</a>
Notice that both on the Chinese site and the Etsy site, they call it Flamingo skirt. What they mean is Flamenco. The same error is not a coincidence.
4) Here's the Chinese website's pants: <a href="http://74.125.95.132/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http://shop33483998.taobao.com/%3Fsearch%3Dy%26price1%3Dnull%26price2%3Dnull%26pageNum%3D1%26scid%3D5772248%26keyword%3Dnull%26orderType%3D_time%26viewType%3Dnull%26isNew%3Dnull%26ends%3D&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&usg=ALkJrhhCEILWhyIL4jnBLgunVMoiziU-dg">http://74.125.95.132/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http://shop33483998.taobao.com/%3Fsearch%3Dy%26price1%3Dnull%26price2%3Dnull%26pageNum%3D1%26scid%3D5772248%26keyword%3Dnull%26orderType%3D_time%26viewType%3Dnull%26isNew%3Dnull%26ends%3D&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&usg=ALkJrhhCEILWhyIL4jnBLgunVMoiziU-dg</a>
and here are the pants all Etsy: <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5874423&section_id=5694662">http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5874423&section_id=5694662</a>
They are all there.
5) Look on the left on the chinese site -- each of those RIPs on the left are a category - dresses, tops, skirts, pants, etc. Every one of the items on idea2lifestyle can be found therein.
6) this rooftop location was popular for the photshoots -- you'll see it on the chinese site, and idea2lifestyle:
<a href="http://74.125.95.132/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http://item.taobao.com/auction/item_detail-0db2-08e22487d80aa73e9db60e4cfa4edd87.htm&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&usg=ALkJrhjcn0hr3k7RslrEuhmAb_yz4NHJnQ">http://74.125.95.132/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http://item.taobao.com/auction/item_detail-0db2-08e22487d80aa73e9db60e4cfa4edd87.htm&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&usg=ALkJrhjcn0hr3k7RslrEuhmAb_yz4NHJnQ</a>
here are the Etsy listings with identical pics you'll see -- sold in 2008-- if you scroll down through the pics on the Chinese site above:
<a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=9049185">http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=9049185</a>
<a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=9858257">http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=9858257 </a>
BTW -- that turquoise thing is the blue elephant that you seen here in the dress sold on Etsy as "secret garden", here on the Chinese website:<a href="http://74.125.95.132/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http://item.taobao.com/auction/item_detail-0db2-93179bc713d235816826670afdfbd639.htm&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&usg=ALkJrhg3VyhlrMmDEnrzT0hFDjA8nSLi4g">http://74.125.95.132/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http://item.taobao.com/auction/item_detail-0db2-93179bc713d235816826670afdfbd639.htm&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&usg=ALkJrhg3VyhlrMmDEnrzT0hFDjA8nSLi4g</a>
and here on Etsy: <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=9272806">http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=9272806</a>
7) the little black silk shrug: <a href="http://74.125.95.132/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http://item.taobao.com/auction/item_detail-0db2-1d50528946af68152ea9bf3c18c75825.htm&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&usg=ALkJrhiua3b-1QUlkNcgIa2YYKeczSlReQ">http://74.125.95.132/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http://item.taobao.com/auction/item_detail-0db2-1d50528946af68152ea9bf3c18c75825.htm&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&usg=ALkJrhiua3b-1QUlkNcgIa2YYKeczSlReQ</a>
here on Etsy: <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25604302">http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25604302</a>
8)And then there's this one, maybe a hundred already sold on Etsy: <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25608373">http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25608373</a>
here in China: <a href="http://74.125.95.132/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http://item.taobao.com/auction/item_detail-0db2-05b13ca5601e2e54e9d5d46093628e65.htm&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&usg=ALkJrhg8359w_0cBvgCmFaZJudGQI6PiSw">http://74.125.95.132/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http://item.taobao.com/auction/item_detail-0db2-05b13ca5601e2e54e9d5d46093628e65.htm&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&usg=ALkJrhg8359w_0cBvgCmFaZJudGQI6PiSw</a>
9) and if there was any doubt, here are the people from their factory, found by clicking on the {RIP}Story on the banner : <a href="http://74.125.95.132/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http://shop33483998.taobao.com/shop/xshop/wui_page-2595736.htm&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&usg=ALkJrhjoGpSw0Mok4zhWe-T37jjUulXyYw">http://74.125.95.132/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http://shop33483998.taobao.com/shop/xshop/wui_page-2595736.htm&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&usg=ALkJrhjoGpSw0Mok4zhWe-T37jjUulXyYw</a>
10) and here is the rating:

82, 106 sales????!!!!
This shop has been flagged by many, not just here, but on Dawanda and elsewhere. I hope this evidence should finally show all their re-writes of their profile on Etsy to be just lies!
this is really sad. This seller has been featured more than once on Etsy (I remember that they were in fact, a featured seller) so that's probably why the information is ignored.
Either that or they believe that it's the same people with a 2nd website...that happens to break the TOU anyway for being handmade by people other than those selling, and not a collective.
EtsyCallOut September 15, 2009 at 1:43 PM
I have had them in my favorites as a reseller for quite some time. Etsy does nothing. There are so many resellers on Etsy it isn't even funny. Etsy used to be a site one could be proud to sell on, not anymore!
Thanks for this site!
EtsyCallOut September 15, 2009 at 1:43 PM
Do you think this shop is a reseller? http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=7404284
EtsyCallOut September 15, 2009 at 1:43 PM
They were a featured seller? Are you shitting me?????????
EtsyCallOut September 15, 2009 at 1:43 PM
What a crap chute...Resellers can be on the FP and be featured sellers, but real handmade people get buried because ETSY is worried about their "image" and how "good" the photos and products look.
EtsyCallOut September 15, 2009 at 1:43 PM
I am going to cry.
EtsyCallOut September 15, 2009 at 1:43 PM
Jesus wept.
EtsyCallOut September 15, 2009 at 1:43 PM
WTF? I almost used her in a treasury last week, but she looked "funny" to me, so I didn't. Please tell me you're joking that she was a featured seller!
EtsyCallOut September 15, 2009 at 1:43 PM
I don't see them in the featured seller list but do know they get featured on the front page a lot.
EtsyCallOut September 15, 2009 at 1:43 PM
I sent one of the links over to him and asked if that a
was him? I've had them marked as a favorite for a long time b/c I thought their clothes were cool! He responded and said that was their drop ship site with the same designs, but that his etsy shop is custom. He said everything in his shop can be altereed and changed, which is true. All of his listings say that they can make it custom for your height and maesurements.
What do you guys think?
EtsyCallOut September 15, 2009 at 1:43 PM
What do you guys think?
_______
I think that this seller is an excellent argument why sellers should be forced to list where they actually live and do their work under "location". "ships from" being the default location would solve a lot, don't you think?
EtsyCallOut September 15, 2009 at 1:43 PM
Huh....drop shipping is against Etsy TOS, isn't it?
EtsyCallOut September 15, 2009 at 1:43 PM
these people are making etsy money so they would be foolish to let them go. obviously the guy does custom orders so even if they have a drop ship location and a home they ship their own etsy orders from, wouldnt that be okay? do you know how many successful etsy sellers have people sewing and shipping for them?people who have been featured sellers. some of them have interns they get for free. if you'd like to make some money on etsy and you arent selling jewelry or bath and body(that you can make in large batches, solo, and even that gets tricky)1. get an intern and 2. get someone to help you knock out product like a mther f%6ker.
EtsyCallOut September 15, 2009 at 1:43 PM
Gern Blanston, you said you are going to cry, what's up?
