EtsyWTF sent me an email about the shop <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=7032107">TheSweetestBatch</a> who is claiming to be selling "unique wedding toppers". They are all found at My Dream Wedding.
Just an example:
"best hand painted porcelain you have ever seen."
<a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25771177">http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25771177</a> is found here

Every other one of her cake toppers is on that website as well.
Whoa! Did you see her mark-up? $56 USD on Etsy, $35 CDN on the wedding site.

Nice theft of their pictures, too. 'Subtle' isn't in this person's vocabulary, is it?

There are some people on this earth that deserve a personal email detailing their douche baggery. This is such a person. And they've been informed.... by me.

A douche bag of the highest order.

Actually, a google search for "upper hand wedding cake topper" yielded pages of stores where this ...ahem...handmade... item can be found.

I also contacted the web site that actually produces these items - went to "contact us" and wrote them to inform them of this seller. Since Etsy obviously has no interest in getting rid of this reseller - then maybe the manufacturer will.

Here's a shop I just came across in Pounce:

I'm confused as to how laminating magazine articles is considered "handmade" and "art". Maybe I'm being too critical? What do ya'll think?
EtsyCallOut September 15, 2009 at 1:41 PM
I noticed Sweetest has now recategorized everything as "supplies." I can't believe that makes it alright.
VA, you're not being too critical. Selling laminated ads with celebrities in them is just sad. I can't imagine them selling.

It's gone now.
EtsyCallOut September 15, 2009 at 1:42 PM
They may have taken down the cake toppers from MyDreamWedding, but they are still selling these:
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=26633941 (also with stolen photo), which are from here:

only that one is gone - after the asshole wrote me back and said "Opps didn't realize I was in violation". You didn't realize you were stealing photos and claiming to "hand make" items that you were actually buying from a manufacturer who mass produces? Seriously. Darwin would roll over...
EtsyCallOut September 15, 2009 at 1:42 PM
Changing the tags to Supplies doesn't change the fact that she is stealing the photos.
I hardly think they are supplies, either.
EtsyCallOut September 15, 2009 at 1:42 PM
Wasn't there a featured seller who laminates things?
EtsyCallOut September 15, 2009 at 1:42 PM
Yes, there was a featured seller who laminated things, I was trying to find her but I think she's gone now. I don't see anything wrong with the mag pictures other than the obvious celebrity do you have the right to resell the photo thing, I have some pendants in my shop made from laminated pictures from vintage childrens books.
