for ohabby81 to be charging such precious coin you would think she would at least change up the middle picture to not make it so oh-so-obvious that it's straight up stolen from Pottery Barn Kids.

I guess it made it into a Storque article as well.

Who knew you could directly copy and then charge $129 for it. And her "this is my favorite" is priceless. Yeah, we can tell it was. Maybe someone can let PBK know how much you liked it as well.

  1. "Meh, I was talkin’ about Pottery Barn, not Rebecca Puig."

I see someone slept through her Business 101 classes at community college.

  2. i dont look at pottery barn so wouldnt have known it was a copy- you cant really fault the dork writer if they didnt read it either. but what is so upsetting is the blatant copy of work by someone. *this is the main problem with etsy* and if they arent going to fix it, there will continue to be vigilante sites like this to ferret out the copycat crap. now if you could just find my obvious so obvious copycat. she copies every item i make. copies my booth display and photos. find her yall.i have her letters of apology but she just keeps doing it.ughhhh

    oh joy!

  3. Oh. My. God.

  5. And, sadly, it appears that someone has bought this. It's a nice painting - it's just so stolen.

Where else can you buy vintage patterns, bathing suits, and Tiffany & Co jewelry on Etsy???

    VA

  10. Sent a link to PBK and to the original artist; hope they take a look at it. If I were the original artist, I'd be pissed.

    JK

  11. This is the original designer of the piece - Rebecca Puig - http://www.sugarboodesigns.com/

  12. VA, not just Tiffany jewelry but FAKE Tiffany jewelry.

I would expect to see more on Etsy since it is virtually impossible to sell the fake crap on Ebay anymore.

  15. At least the painting has been removed from the Storque article.

JK - Thanks for contacting PBK and the artist!

  17. Thanks, Found Something -- I felt letting her know was the only thing to do; she obviously has worked hard to get the name recognition she has and no one - known or unknown - deserves to have their hard work misappropriated like that.

  18. Her work is really lovely.

  19. Gee I wonder where she got the idea for this style of painting

  22. did someone say this seller is gone? she is still around and selling.

  23. Here's the second half of the stolen equation.

  25. I got an email back from Pottery Barn.

"Our corporate office monitors these types of websites to ensure a seller is not misusing Pottery Barn's intellectual property, including its trademarks and copyrighted material. We appreciate your taking the time to provide us with this information and we will be happy to forward this to our corporate headquarters for further review.

If we may be of any further assistance, please contact us."

  26. "and Etsy featured this plagarist in the Storque??????? what the hell is wrong with them??????"

Um...they didn't know? I mean, yeah, Etsy drops the ball a lot but geeez. They don't research every listing by going to Pottery Barn first to make sure nothing's been copied.

    gloob

  27. Um...it was more of a rhetorical question. someone else figured it out though and it wasn't Etsy staff... go figure.

    Chris

  28. I will give etsy a break on this one. They can't be expected to know who are copycats and who are not.

    Dee

  29. Bedazzled, I did hear back from PBK; the links have been forwarded to the corporate offices for review.

I know a lot of people are saying 'Well, Etsy didn't know', and while it's true that they didn't I think some action should have been taken as soon as they found out. Maybe it's just me being mean-spirited, but I do think that once an 'artist' is found out to be a blatant, no-question-about-it copier, steps should be taken by admin and some of those steps should involve consequences.

    JK

  30. Well, here's the thing. That painting was an obvious mismatch to the rest of their store. A completely different style and type of item. So it's not like it would take a rocket scientist to figure out that it might not be original art. In any case, when people complain about them using the same sellers over and over, this is a kind of good argument as to why they do. When people have a proven track record, it's easier to know what you're dealing with. As much as we complain about wanting newbies included, this is a good reason not to.

    forum rubbernecker

  31. I believe it's possible to use new people and still keep what integrity remains; how hard would it be to check someone's shop for something like that glaring mismatch before deciding to promote them? And besides, not every admin favourite is entirely squeaky clean.

    JK

  32. I'd sure hate to be up against Pottery Barn's intellectual property attorneys. I'm sure they can afford the best.

"I know a lot of people are saying ‘Well, Etsy didn’t know’, and while it’s true that they didn’t I think some action should have been taken as soon as they found out."

I agree. The seller should have been shut down immediately, IMO.

    Bedazzled Condom

  33. Oh I thought the seller was gone too - but the name was spelled wrong in the OP. It's "oabby18" not "ohabby18".

At least since it is sold, she can't take it down and hide her theft. I'll be curious to see if the buyer ever leaves feedback.

    flaggingdoesnothing

  34. Well, I'll just say this. While this seems like an obvious copy, Pottery Barn is WELL known in the wholesale industry to be outright thiefs. I used to work the trade shows, and vendors would literally refuse to give reps from PB any sort of catalogs etc.

So I don't really feel bad for 'em.
    What goes around comes around.

    podsquad

  35. Way to justify the theft from the original artist, podsquad!

I'm sure Rebecca Puig appreciates your support.

    Bedazzled Condom

  36. Meh, I was talkin' about Pottery Barn, not Rebecca Puig.

    podsquad

  37. No one here feels badly for Pottery Barn. We feel for the artist whose work got swiped, and also for ourselves, as selling under the Etsy umbrella with thieves and copy cats casts a bad reflection on all of us by association.
