I guess some people don't have original thoughts? Sad, that.
Bedazzled Condom September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
...that's so generic why would anyone WANT to copy it?
But yeah, at least it looks solid.
Karen September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
Oh, but everyone just LOVES him, so it's ok, right?
forum rubbernecker September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
Way to be subtle! But he's a guy on Etsy, so he'll get a free pass no matter what. Hmm. . .wonder if I should get the husband to set up shop?
JK September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
At least it looks well made.
There's so many other jewelry/prints/othercrap on etsy that's copied from stores and other sellers that look like slapped together with a glue stick, they make WilliamDohmans copies look good.

Same thing. on other sites as well!

Wonder if they wholesale!
DRS September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
and this item http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=vl_other_2&listing_id=26451686 reminds me of johnwgolden's stuff
etsycallout September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
Wow. Totally uncool. We thought the woman who ripped off the painting from Pottery Barn was a disgrace, but this guy gets a couple of "at least it's solid" remarks?? This is a 100% rip off, he didn't even make a slight attempt at changing one little thing. At least the Pottery Barn rip chick changed it up a little.
Please stop giving free passes to anyone with a peen, you guys. This is pathetic and blatant rip of someone else's design.
toonces September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
How did the Pottery Barn chick "change it up a little"? Even the colors were the same as was the writing style for the most part albeit the colors on the original were more muted.
Etsy'er September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
Right, it was an exact copy "for the most part" and some colors were muted. That's all I meant by her changing up a little....a very tiny wee smidge little.
This guy hasn't changed one single thing. But I don't want this thread to turn into a discussion of the Pottery Barn Girl, let's keep the focus on this jerk where it belongs ;)
toonces September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
Are the rip off artists ever contacted and busted?
molls September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
i believe that birdhouse was on the front page as was one fish two fish. no screening with what is featured. no ethics.
just amazed September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
Oh, I didn't mean it wasn't wrong, just IMO pretty generic.
Oh, a birdhouse with a bird shaped door. Wow. *yawn*
As for 'at least it looks solid' - he obviously has the skill, it'd be nice if he had a bit of originality.
The prints piss me off more, though I'm sure that 'homage' would be claimed...though quoting source would be a FANTASTIC idea. *rolls eyes*
Karen September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
his interpretation of dr. seuss is legal , come on you guys think a little. its classic. it would be sad if someone bought that and didnt know.
what is whacky is his direct imitation of the birdhouse and his john golden imitations. they look like john golden's. wjw
maybe he makes the birdhouses for that website?quite a few etsy artists make items for anthropologie, uncommon objects, and other well known online catologues. hopefully that is the case b/c otherwise he hasnt a (bird) leg to stand on
oh joy! September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
Bird leg to stand on....lol. Yeah I was hoping he was that designer too but they mention the name and the country he lives in and they don't match up.
toonces September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
just amazed, how would Etsy know though? I mean, I wouldn't have a clue. They'd have to hire someone full time just to google various keywords that pertain to every item they're thinking of putting on the fp or in a storque, which seems ridiculous.
The only reason I know about these rips is because of this here blog ;) I also have no idea how she finds this stuff!!
toonces September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
I knew it wasn't the same artist because the birds looked different. Dr. Suess' widow has STIFF copyright on his work and I remember doing a great big sue-fest a couple years ago. She is not keen on "interpretation".
etsycallout September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM

_______________
Then he would probably not be able to sell them on Etsy too. once you are licensing a design or making something for someone else, they don't usually allow you to also sell it. Depends on the licensing contract, but they don't want to compete with you.
forum rubbernecker September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
i know someone well who sells his handmade items to a major etailer and sells them on etsy. the same item. same description.same name.lets not generalize that all companies make artists take their items off of etsy
oh joy! September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
The person who designed the birdhouses on the Pop Deluxe website is from the Netherlands. If you read the etsy rip off guy's description, he makes no mention of the design being his own.
molls September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
I seem to remember a forum thread about this very thing. Interesting.

Supplies? I don't think so.
Gern Blanston September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
They just happen to be the same size. Same BIRD. and same color. Wow, what a coincidence! Pffft
etsycallout September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
yAll crack me up. if it was a chick, she'd have death threats, surely. i just dont get the male worship thing on the forum either.
all kidding aside, what a complete duplication of someone's work. there is no way to say that just happened organically. they are too much alike. you cant just change the color of the stain, substitute birch for the ply and say hey its different.
oh joy! September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
He didn't even bother to give it a different name! Dude must be a sociopath. Anyone for restarting the forum thread?
molls September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
I dare ya! lol
Hmmm.. September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
Do it do it! Sock puppet bump it and say "oh lookee here, he really did steal the design"
forum rubbernecker September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
Done.

Gern Blanston September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
That was truly awesome!
forum rubbernecker September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
i don't think the birdhouse is copied but looks to be bought and then the under-roof and bird hole painted. just don't know what profit is in that with shipping. reading the thread now. waiting for him to respond.
just amazed September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
I think he shat his pants after the copyright thread. He has removed birdhouses from his shop.
Suspicious September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
But it still remains in his Artfire shop

Suspicious September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
Don't be shy, Just Amazed. Stoke that penis. Stoke it good!
I'm sure he had very good reasons to alter the silhouette of the bird before he painted the edges.
::::::rolling eyes:::::::::
Bedazzled Condom September 16, 2009 at 7:08 PM
what i was saying is he did not bother to build a new one-just painted the underside. do i get an apology now?
just amazed September 16, 2009 at 7:09 PM
He is trying for some more attention now. First he posts this in Business and it gets moved to promos.
http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=6197038
So he then duplicates it and starts again in Business.
http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=6197052
And if anyone can find where he stole the robot design, big props to you! It has to be stolen. That guy is a turd.
Suspicious September 16, 2009 at 7:09 PM
The duplicate thread he opened in Business got moved to ETC and here start-eth the dick sucking....
He'll probably sell one by the end of the day.
Suspicious September 16, 2009 at 7:09 PM
Let's hope not. I hope the original designer is able to go after him and force him to pull that copy cat listing off the market. Maybe even go after him for royalties for the ones he's already sold.
Hmmm.. September 16, 2009 at 7:09 PM
He did sell a birdhouse as a result of that thread he started. The buyer chimed in on the thread. Somebody obviously had money to burn.
I'm referring to supposedly his new design of the robot. I bet he sells one of those by the end of the day and I swear it's not his design -- just have to find the original. It's too clever for a dork like him considering he already stole the birdhouse design.
Suspicious September 16, 2009 at 7:09 PM
Suspicious, I think you're right. He's not too creative so he recycles the designs of others. The jerk is selling an altered version of The Sex Pistols' album art. Sleezy, sleezy boy and very unprofessional.
molls September 16, 2009 at 7:09 PM
Did anyone notice that his signs were featured in the Etsy finds today. Not sure if they are original ideas (ha ha) or not but Etsy seems to like him.
notbuyingit September 16, 2009 at 7:09 PM
These are close: http://www.wanderingpandacomics.com/blog/woodbot.php

Did you know that Artfire has a little number next to their 'flag this item' link to indicate how many times it's been reported? I can only imagine how high that would go for some of the things on Etsy!
JK September 16, 2009 at 7:09 PM
Got an email from Artfire -- four flags on an item and it's up for official review! Anyone else want to link them to the original birdhouse?
JK September 16, 2009 at 7:09 PM
I just flagged it on Artfire. We need 2 more to do it please!
Suspicious September 16, 2009 at 7:09 PM
He's planning on relisting the birdhouses to get some publicity...

yes, he is getting more publicity from that new post that "Dee" gave above at:
http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=6209311&page=1
he is getting alot of comments
Bebe September 16, 2009 at 7:09 PM
Wonder how long his thread will stay up? Copyright, legal talk, copying discussions -- anyone else and I doubt it would have gone to two pages.
JK September 16, 2009 at 7:09 PM
Seriously, this dude has got be a sociopath. There's really no other explanation. When karma smacks him in the head, he's not going to know what hit him.
molls September 16, 2009 at 7:09 PM
I guess we all need to go in and change our sex to male! Maybe we can get more sales that way!!! LOL!
MadeByM**** September 16, 2009 at 7:09 PM
Golden Boy's thread has been closed! It only took 14 pages, too. The amount of people defending his copy and his attitude was breathtaking; guess it pays to have that Y chromosome on Etsy!
JK September 16, 2009 at 7:09 PM
He is back with a new birdhouse. Clearly he received the copyright papers for his old stolen birdhouses and had to change.
