Vintage FAIL...

These boots were on the front page. They are "Vintage 80s Etienne AIGNER SIGNATURE " boots.
<a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=20184185">http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=20184185</a> in <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5244929">GoodEye</a>.

How can these be vintage when Etienne Aigner only made umbrella's, perfume and other small accessories until 2000 and didn't start making leather goods until 2001?

And these, from &lt;a href=&quot;in <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5244929">GoodEye</a>"&gt;GoodEye</a>, <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=vl_other_1&amp;listing_id=25667327">http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=vl_other_1&amp;listing_id=25667327</a> can't be vintage because Adrienne Vittadini didn't get into the glasses biz until 1996.
This shop has a few other things that are made by brands not even in existence 20 years ago.

And these DKNY boots in <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5189874">nstylevintage</a> are probably not vintage since DKNY wasn't formed until 1989 and the shoes and boots weren't introduced until a couple years later. The lace up boots weren't popular until the late 1990s so I doubt these meet the 20 year test.
<a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=28921972">http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=28921972</a>

<a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5066746">bsochic</a>'s description says "These sunglasses are from the early 80's", yet, DKNY wasn't founded until 1989. Say what??
<a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=24278080">http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=24278080</a> (Make sure to check out her feedback for a negative about misrepresentation.)

<a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=7008415">AntiNu</a> doesn't even know Etsy's TOS and writes in the description that the shoes are "about 16 years old."
<a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=29446569">http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=29446569</a>

It's fun to search for stuff made by designer's that haven't been around for 10 years, let alone 20, to see what you come up with. You'd be surprised!

  1. I think you're wrong about the dates for Aigner. I bought my first Aigner leather purse in the late 70s. Had Aigner loafers (I think they were?) in the 80s. Not sure if these boots are that old. The heels look a bit more contemporary to me, but I boots are not something I know much about -- never wear them.

  2. They made purses and travel bags in the 70s and 80s but didn't start the boots until more recent years. I remember reading about the boot line practically bankrupting them.

I agree that the heels look too contemporary to be 80s.

Argh to the shop owner who admits she's selling non vintage.

  3. Don't recognize the ones posted, but EA produced boots by the late 80s. I owned a pair.

  4. ea did produce shoes in the 70s and 80s. no doubt. the boots heels look 80s to me, but not sure. i own a pair of ea boots and i could have sworn i bought them in the late 80s.

  5. Miu Miu (Prada) is also a late comer to shoes. Steve Madden is another. I think that was discussed previously.

  6. I just spent 10 minutes flagging everything from 1993 - 1999 in the Vintage category. (will be getting to 1990-1992 later).
Some I remembered flagging before and they're still there.

Why does etsy bother to have a TOU if they're not going to do anything about it???

I'm not even a vintage seller and this stuff pisses me off.

  7. Aigner definitely made boots in the seventies. I had a pair in the same colour but with much lower heels. This was the late seventies.

  8. EA made boots in the 70's and 80's but the EA "Signature" boots are definitely post 1995.

Antinu should have those shoes removed but they probably won't be. That's why Etsy has become the world's largest garage sale. They let all this vintage-not crap stay even tho the stuff gets flagged over and over.

It's an insult to those selling genuine vintage.

OMG, Hot Kiss shoes as vintage? COME ON! And she has sold a ton in just a fw months?

  11. Anti Nu is also that spoon chick that was as a featured seller. She knows the TOU. Doesn't care.

  12. Vintage seller admits shoes aren't vintage- Etsy hasn't removed so it must be OK. Hot Kiss shoes as vintage- what a joke.
DKNY as vintage- another joke. Donna Karan founded DKNY in 88-89 and started with ladies jeans. Shoes and boots didn't come out until 1995 and sunglasses came out in 1998. That is according to my textbooks. I majored in fashion design.
Anti Nu should know better than to list something only 16 years old.
Etsy is saturated with stuff sold as vintage that's less than 20 years old. That's why it looks like a yard sale. Administration must not care too much about the integrity of the site since they allow it, promote it and never remove it.

  13. Puh-leeze. Do you know how many items I've flagged that blatantly have 199X in the title? Items where the seller even says "not vintage", "almost vintage", or something similar.

    C'mon, it's a no brainer!!!!

    EtsyCallOut

  14. It's disgusting that they let this go on and on without a care.

DKNY is NOT vintage. Either is Steve Madden. But you can find them both for sale on Etsy!!!!!!!!!

The first shop has a shirt for sale that's only two or three years old and was sold through Speigel catalog.

I guess as long as it's ripped, missing a button or has a stain or two, it's vintage per Etsy.

  15. I just looked through a search of PIF. I thought the unwritten rule was it is to be listed for .20 + shipping? Not one on the most recent listings is listed at $ .20

Maybe I misunderstood the use of the tag and what it all entails?

    EtsyCallOut

  16. ok well there is one now.. but at the time I posted the above message - there were none at .20

    ^.^

  17. Sort the PIFs from highest to lowest. That's always fun.

  18. Not sure where to send these things to, but here's a seller that's been driving me crazy:

    BethBoudin.etsy.com
    http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6639345

For a while, she kept putting up alchemy requests for donations, usually refillable ink cartridges. Now she mistags PIFs. (Thanks for the note about searching PIF, btw. Very interesting findings...). All-around annoying and reappears at the weirdest times. Check out her profile... "Watch out Martha Stewart!"

  19. wow i didn't know about the sort by price method. searching pifs from highest to lowest is hilarious.

has anyone seen the $85.00 pif? 100% of it is being donated to charity. does that make it a pif? i'm not sure i understand. is it mistagging, or is it etsy legal?

    EtsyCallOut

  20. Here are my favorite "PIFs"
    http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=22228730 (39 0f 74 items are PIFs)

  21. If Anti Nu states in her item description that the shoes are 16 years old, why are they still allowed to be listed???
    Special privileges for featured sellers???

  24. I convoed Anti Nu about her items, and just said how disappointed I was to see a sucessful seller not maintaining the dignity of Etsy Vintage. Made me feel better.

    EtsyCallOut

  25. She took the shoes down, and said my approach could use some work. Like, wow my feelings are so hurt.

    EtsyCallOut

  26. The shoes are gone, thus, the approach worked, thus, it doesn't need any work.

I have an idea, Anti Nu, why not just follow the rules from the beginning and then you won't have to spend one minute worrying about how anyone approaches you to remind you that you volunteered freely to follow the rules?

    EtsyCallOut

  27. The rules are there for everyone to follow, not just the select few. Hmmm, like some here?

  28. I am just now coming across this comment regarding Good Eye and EA. She's one of my fav with vintage. Excellent customer service and fast shipping too. Quality products! I personally have worn EA leather products in the 80's and 90's, and recall buying EA leather boots for a Christmas gift in the 80's.......... The signature collection has been around for quite some time. (The use of the "A" instead of the full name). I believe her shop is legit as my money has been spent here. Perhaps more product research should be done before slamming her. I usually agree and shake my head with these bogus shop finds, however this post disappoints me.

  29. I like all vintage.

  30. I have a large collection of vintage items. Clothing, handbags , art work and even a small collection on vintage porn. But that's another story.
