In my inbox:

Hi ya - am really upset on behalf of a few friends of mine - the buyer baileyhart7 has been buying things on etsy and reselling on ebay. Not a big deal in general - but she's stealing photos and descriptions.

Check these out:

Since etsy is unlikely to do anything - though have reported - could you do a post? Thanks so much,

  1. Well, here's a bright spot for the day -- guess which shop is finally empty? http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5247852

  2. Dare I hope the empty shop is permanent?

  3. oooooo! she bought something from me, but I don't see it listed on ebay. I don't really mind so much but it's a little annoying that she asked me to reduce the price about 40%. good thing I said absolutely not.

  4. There really is nothing that etsy can do, and there really is nothing wrong with reselling etsy buys on ebay, but, the ebay seller should at least do her own photos. I think if you contact ebay with the proof, they will do something about it.

  5. The etsy seller can report her to eBay for the stolen photos and description. They actually move pretty quickly on those. You can go to "Report" on the auction page and it will give you options to choose from.

  6. Wow, yet another reason haggling should be avoided at all costs on Etsy. It irks me to think that people are trying to get discounts from *us* so they can turn around and make a higher profit off of the items they purchase. Good on you teena, for not doing it!

  7. This is a really good reminder to price correctly---people who are undercharging considerably become victims of reselling, but if I buy something for 35 dollars and I can't sell t higher than 40, I'll quickly lose my motivation for reselling.i

  8. yesss....keep an eye out on the hagglers and if you have any suspicions google their screen names, sometimes they use the same one. I had a lady that wanted me to give her a wholesale discount (50%) but she didn't want to meet the minimums, but PROMISED she would be back every week! hahaha!!

I googled her and found her on blogspot hocking Etsy merchandise. I wish to God I could remember her, this was waaaay back before I had even heard of this site and I was but a mere Etsy noob.

  9. who cares about the reselling? Its perfectly legal and quite smart of her to do so, easy to do so on Etsy...Land of the Underpriced Widgets.

but the photo stealing? badbad nono! contact eBay, they're huge on cracking down on photo theft!

  11. what's hilarious is she bought the dress for over $200. Then hacked it up. then posted it on ebay.

  12. "who cares about the reselling? "

No one. What we do care about is resellers trying to get us to eat profits so that they can turn around and make more off of the item themselves.

And also about stealing photos and product descrips.

  13. toonces,

Thats why, when theres threads about people bargaining or asking for discounts, I dont support the idea. I will sell wholesale to a store (on my terms) OR if someone spends a decent amount of money, I will OFFER them a discount or a freebie after the purchase...

    Brenda

  14. Yes! I totally agree. It makes me cringe when I see listings that say "make me an offer" or something like that. It gives buyers the impression that we're all ready to haggle.

  15. This seller did a similar thing, copying text instead of the photos. If you sell vintage, don't sell to this buyer.

  16. i wonder if she bought the item and it didnt work. actually i've purchased quite a few items on etsy that i'd love to resell- was just too embarrassed to tell the artists that the items just werent as nice in person or unflattering or looked different in person. spending hundreds of dollars on items you cant see or feel and then they arrive in the mail and just arent as nice as you thought. that probably happens to lots of people everyday on etsy

    oh joy!
